Summary: It was time. Taehyun’s painstaking preparations and your intricate attempts at distracting Prince Beomgyu had all led up to this moment. You really hope your efforts would bear fruit!
Taehyun’s spell teleporting you and him would a large task. You only hope that neither Beomgyu nor Soobin would hinder your plans. Most importantly, you wanted the both of you to get back to the Woods of Mors together, in one piece.
Blood splatters across the cobbled flooring. The once honey-skin is now marred by bloody lines from the whip. The Royal Commander flinches and grunts as the whip flies down time and time again, harsher and harsher upon his bare back. His wrists tied helplessly.
Though the young knight did not regret his actions despite the unbearable pain he was in. Even if his actions helped you gain even just a little more time, he’d do it again in a heartbeat. After all, all he was, was a pitiful coward who couldn’t protect the one he loved. The one he was supposed to serve with his life.
Kai’s eyes rolls back in agony; barely keeping conscious. His blood drips down his torso as he shivers violently. The pain encapsulates his beaten body like an agonising vice. This was his consequence, his punishment for deliberately disobeying orders.
“You are indeed lucky, I have not just had you executed. Purely for the notion that the public would be rather unhappy to know of an execution before my coronation. Furthermore, your lineage is exquisite, for that alone, I am leaving you with a lasting reminder of what happens if you disobey me as your king,” Sehun utters, walking past Hueningkai’s trembling body. He was brought to the brink of death.
A disgusted grimace paints Sehun’s visage, “Hm, warden, make sure the floor is thoroughly scrubbed. It is appalling.”
Sehun crouches down with a dark, twisted gaze, “Do not disobey my orders for your measly feelings towards her again. You will stay in your new home here in the dungeons in the meantime. I’ll let you out when your beloved princess is nothing but a corpse.” Hueningkai hisses in pain; countless tears drip down his bloodied face.
Sehun condescendingly smirks, getting up peering at the surrounding guards, “Get him treated. I don’t want news of him dying from his injuries spreading either. Cut his meals, as you do with other criminals.” He muses, peering at the fallen knight, “You will thank me for my mercy.”
Sehun walks out of the dungeons feeling a new sense of self-satisfaction. Preparations for the coronation were going well, he has been tirelessly working on his public persona and slowly garnering the affections of the public with his speeches and drifting attention away from his no-good run away sibling. He will make a fine king, no doubt.
His eyes meet with his dearest friend who sits on his throne with a playful smile. “Yeonjun?” Yeonjun seems distracted by the luxury and intricacy of the golden throne and tufted cushions; his eyes twinkling with desire.
Sehun’s eyes narrow briefly, “Get off my throne.” Yeonjun muses, “My, are you offended that I sat on it? It’s very comfortable you know.” Sehun scoffs, “You know it’s forbidden for non-nobles to sit on it. Do not test me, I am already going through quite the trouble.”
Yeonjun’s eyes twinkle mischievously, “Come now, your highness. I merely jest. This throne is for you and you alone. I was just curious to see your reaction and you did not disappoint.” Sehun rolls his eyes, “You and your games.”
The sorcerer grins, “How is the Commander? Still alive?” Sehun chuckles sitting on the throne, “Barely, but I took into consideration your idea of not killing him. It would only backfire. As wise as always, my friend. This punishment should scar him for a lifetime.”
Yeonjun hums, placing his arms behind his back, “Well, a good whipping never fails.” Sehun hums exasperated, “How was the meeting with the barons and chancellors?”
“As boring as always…” Yeonjun begins and he hums lowly, “Though there are still a few who doubt your ability to rule. They are still concerned about y/n.” Sehun’s grip on the armrests of the throne tighten, “If only I could get rid of those aristocratic pests. Who do they think they are?”
Yeonjun murmurs amused, “A new concern has raised on your ability to catch a mere noblewoman, then how are you able to carry out any decree with sufficient strength and power?” Sehun’s eye twitches as anger and paranoia flood through him. He cannot lose support from the Royal Court at any cost.
Yeonjun peers down smiling almost blissfully at Sehun who tightens his jaw. His heart races. “There are some of your subjects and some journalists who also wish to know of the whereabouts and status of the Princess.” More fear and anxiety flood through Sehun’s system.
The sorcerer frowns, “My, your highness. You look pale. My apologies, you have already spent the last few weeks delirious and under spirits and here I am making you feel worse!” Sehun grits his teeth, “Halt your apologies. I…” His hands shake slightly trying to compose himself.
“No matter, the date of my coronation is approaching and that is all that matters. Once I am king, no one can say anything. My word is law. If I have to act as a tyrant, so be it. If the people accept me as I am, then I shall be a kind ruler.” Sehun mutters, rubbing his forehead distressed.
Yeonjun smiles slyly, “Indeed, I see no fault in your reasoning, your highness. No noble can be purely good. You must adapt accordingly to your subjects and court. It brings me joy to see you grow into a fine nobleman, Sehun.”
Sehun clears his throat, appeased by his friend’s words. “How is everything else, I heard you insisted on checking the budgets for this month? I was not aware you had an interest in accounting?”
Yeonjun hums, “I do not, I was merely interested in the manner in which the finance is handled within the palace. The treasurer is a wise man indeed, even, I almost lost my wits at the scrolls of calculations.” Sehun chuckles, “It is but natural.”
Yeonjun hums, peering at the intricacy of the throne with great admiration, “Do not fret your highness, everything will proceed smoothly.” He murmurs bowing, “After all, I am by your side. As your beloved friend, I would never go against you.”
Sehun nods, “I know you wouldn’t. Unlike the other fools around here, you know your place. You are truly wise, someone worthy of my time.”
“Thank you, your highness. It’s an honour as always,” Yeonjun smiles.
“Oh, and about y/n. I shall sort her out, you merely do your regular duties. Leave everything to me, your highness. As always, I am by your side,” Yeonjun expresses fervently.
Sehun eases up, “Do as you wish. My mood has faltered.” Paranoia floods through Sehun’s body. There is no way y/n could come to stop him. Right? Yeonjun will take care of it. He was ever so capable.
Yeonjun murmurs with a coy smile, “Do not be so sour, your highness. I believe only good things will come your way.” Yeonjun’s eyes glimmer as he peers at the crown on Sehun’s head, “After all, with power like yours. Who could possibly look down on you?”
“Well said,” Sehun murmurs. Yeonjun bows once more before retreating with a dark expression.
Yeonjun’s footsteps clatter amongst the hallways; he’d have to continue to keep an eye on that pesky princess. Otherwise all his years of hard work would be undone. Yeonjun did not want her to enter Fortuna before Sehun’s coronation. Security around the palace has unfortunately increased making him become frustrated.
“Mm…Sehun, Sehun, how pitiful you are.” Yeonjun hums barely above a whisper. With every task Sehun unloads on Yeonjun, it is a boon. Yeonjun took pride in playing the prince like a puppet on strings. After all, he’d make sure the upcoming coronation would be quite the spectacle. A breathy laugh escapes his lips. How could the prince be so naive?
As Sehun would hate to admit it, all the ideas and suggestions he’s implemented came from Yeonjun. Yeonjun peers at his reflection on the marble floor with a dreary sigh. Oh, how fine he would look with a decadent crown on his head. A smirk laces his lips. Oh, how fine indeed.
It was only a matter of time.
————
“Today’s the day, sweetheart. I’ve got everything we need and I’ve recited the enchantment over and over again. It should work. I’ve tried it on small items and it seems to work well,” Taehyun hums as he walks beside you.
You nod with a frown, “It has to work,” you drawl with an exasperated sigh, “Beomgyu is so draining to be around. I feel bored by the pitiful tasks he pushes onto me regarding our so called betrothal. He’s so…ugh!” You huff.
A chuckle escapes the sorcerer beside you, “Just put up with him a little longer. Just until this evening, okay? We’ve got this.” He snickers, “Is he that unbearable, princess? Come now, was he not ever so charming?” Rolling your eyes, you scoff, “Very funny, Taehyun. But…I just want to go home. Back to Fortuna. Get things back in line.” His expression softens briefly and he nods, “And you will. I’ll make sure of it.”
You frown, “Are you sure you have enough mana to teleport the both of us?” Taehyun’s eyes flicker with subtle unease and he shakes his head with a cocky smile, “Do not forget I am of the Kang Family lineage. Anyway, I can bypass that issue. So it’s fine.”
You pout, “Of course you’re skilled it’s just…you have never tried it with two people. I’m worried if you get hurt. Or…or if only one of us gets teleported.” Genuine worry fills your visage and he gives you a smirk, “Don’t worry, sweetheart. Leave everything to me. Just keep your little Prince Charming there occupied for me, okay? Away from the sorcerer’s chamber.”
You inquire, “Does Soobin know what you’re up to?” Taehyun muses, “Initially he was rather confused, but after these last few days I think he’s put together the pieces. Although, he doesn’t know it’s our way of escape. At the end of the day he is the Prince’s lapdog.” You sigh, “Do not be rude to your friend. I’m sure he means well.”
Taehyun scoffs, “He is sweet of course but the last thing I want is him blabbering our plans and demolishing our chances of escape.” You nod in agreement; Taehyun was being rational.
“Anyway, I’ll apologise later or something through a letter.” You let out a very unnoble snort taking him by surprise and he laughs, “Goodness, I wasn’t aware you were capable of laughing in such a manner, princess.” You smile at him bashfully; his teasing gaze makes your heart flutter and feel warm inside. “Well, perhaps you are the only person to see me in such a state.”
You find yourself staring at his pretty features and as your eyes scan down; your eyes widen, catching glint of a gold object glittering under the candlelight of the lit hallways. Your ring. On his neck?
“My ring…you formed a necklace?” Your heart palpitates; finding yourself breathless. Taehyun’s eyes widen as he tucks the hanging ring under his shirt and clears his throat awkwardly, “It’s nothing. I just, it’s worth a lot so I didn’t want to lose it. Not just for its material value or anything, you did say I could keep it as a souvenir or something.”
You peer at him with a wide smile, “Thank you for keeping it safe.” Taehyun is taken aback by your gorgeous smile, feeling his cheeks grow into a flustered shade of subtle red. “Really, it was just so I didn’t lose the ring. Don’t t-think too much into it,” he scoffs, averting his gaze.
Rolling your eyes, “Of course. Hm, you can be rather cute sometimes, and here I thought you tossed it carelessly into that worn-out satchel of yours.”
Taehyun huffs, “I’m not an imbecile to throw such a valuable thing aside carelessly. I’m not heartless, you know?” You grin, “I’m aware. You’re rather soft inside. A big heart, you have got.”
A scoff escapes his lips, “Whatever, anyway. Keep the pretty boy entertained. As I stated before, meet me in the sorcerer’s tower today by the sunset. Sharp.”
“Beomgyu knows that I’m leaving today, right?” Taehyun asks. You nod, “I told him, we made up a day or two ago. I told him earlier this morning you were planning to leave this evening and I wanted to send you off.”
“He wasn’t suspicious or anything?” Taehyun murmurs. You shake your head, “No, he was fine with the idea. In fact he was overjoyed.” Taehyun grunts irritated, “Of course that obnoxious fuck would be happy with me leaving.” Your eyes widen and he scoffs, “Anyway, follow the plan. Act normal.” You huff, “I know, don't underestimate me.”
“Not underestimating you princess, just want you to be safe,” he hums brushing up past you with a serious expression, “Our lives could very well be on the line tonight.” You nod, “Understood.”
He walks away but not without peering his head over his shoulder and giving you a final snarky smirk and finally walking off.
Everything was slowly setting in place and nerves wrack your body. Absolutely everything had to work out! Otherwise the both of you had to be doomed. Ironically, you’d feel safer back in Fortuna, especially in the Woods of Mors, where not many would dare to traverse.
Images of Taehyun flash in your mind as a warmth permeates your body. You felt safe with Taehyun. He was intelligent, witty and most of all far more capable than you were. You trusted him to be by your side. You would have never thought you two would be like this when you first met his arrogant self in the woods.
With a determined expression you stride through the hallways back to return to Beomgyu’s side. For yourself, for Taehyun, for Kai and most importantly for your people. You would succeed no matter what.
————
Taehyun wipes the sweat off his brow as he finishes the last of the preparations on the floor of the sorcerers’ chamber. The chalk mana circle is fully drawn with the appropriate lines shapes and intricate symbols. Taehyun peers out the small window seeing the golden hues of the sky as the sun melts into the horizon. A shaky sigh escapes his lips.
“Taehyun, this isn’t a mere spell casting experiment. Tell me the truth,” Soobin utters with a frustrated expression. “You’ve kept me in the dark for long enough. I’m beginning to get worried you have other intentions.”
A small laugh escapes Taehyun’s lips, “I’ll humour you then, Soobin.” Soobin murmurs, “You’re planning to leave aren’t you?”
Taehyun stiffens, he’d put it together that quickly, huh? “You’re correct,” Taehyun muses, beginning to place candles around the circle and the various prisms and orbs in the correct positions.
“With Princess Y/n,” Soobin resumes tensely. “Well you’re not a fool, clearly you’re aware,” Taehyun dryly hums. Soobin murmurs with a hurt expression, “I guessed, but I was waiting for you to tell me. Do you not trust me?”
Taehyun bitterly smiles, “Trust? Don’t be naive.” Soobin flinches at his sour tone. “Trust is what got me and her in this shit mess in the first place. Believing your disgusting prince but instead he accepted her for his own benefit.”
“But marrying him will help her strengthen her position, no? I…” Soobin hesitates. “You don’t understand, being forced into marriage is not exactly the same as a mutual alliance is it?” Taehyun snaps.
Taehyun scowls, “You knew, I’m sure he tells you a lot of his idiotic ramblings. Yet you do not once rush to the side of justice. You knew it was suspicious when the guards here wouldn’t let either of us outside.”
Soobin grunts, “I know. I know okay. I’ve known about the Prince’s plans this entire time. That’s why…” Soobin’s voice cracks, “That’s why I went and got the resources you needed for the teleportation. I didn’t stop you. I…I didn’t encourage him either.”
Taehyun stops standing up, peering at his friend. “You intentionally followed my whims?” Soobin frowns, “I know, his highness has been holding the Princess captive here. He told me this before you even knew. This was the plan he discussed with me. I merely went along with it.”Taehyun remains silent processing his words. “I couldn’t object to him, Taehyun. I…he’s the ruler here. That would practically be handing my life over,” Soobin stammers.
Taehyun murmurs, “So you’re playing the ignorant fool. How will you explain yourself after me and her leave? Won’t you be considered an accomplice?”
“Did you think about that? You clearly didn’t care. You would have left me here to clear up your mess,” Soobin seethes lowly. “I have to be selfish, this once,” Taehyun grits out.
Soobin muses sourly, “I’m not angry, you’re doing this out of desperation. I don’t agree with his highness’s actions manipulating her. I get why you're resorting to this.” The two stare at each other in an uncomfortable silence. “That’s why I asked no questions until now,” Soobin mutters.
“You’re not going to tell the Prince?” Taehyun asks, frowning. Soobin shakes his head, “I am not cruel. I may be loyal, but I am not cruel. Fortuna deserves a good ruler, I can see she has the qualities required of one,” Soobin gives Taehyun a smirk, “Especially if she’s managed to capture your attention of all people.”
A scoff escapes Taehyun’s lips, “Hilarious.” Soobin hums, “It hurts. But I’ll manage; I will merely say this happened without my knowledge. I will play the ignorant fool. At the end of the day, I am a coward, Taehyun, who does not wish to go against royalty. I don’t want to die at his highness’s wrath.”
Taehyun’s heart stings, he was going to let Soobin take the fall for the aftermath. Guilt consumes him. “I’m sorry,” Taehyun utters. Soobin’s eyes widen in surprise with a wry smile, “An apology from the prodigy Kang Taehyun? A sincere one at that. You truly have changed.”
“I didn’t want to deceive you. I just thought you’d spill everything to Beomgyu,” Taehyun sighs. “Understandable,” Soobin utters, peering at the sunset, “When it gets dark is the optimal time, yes?” Taehyun nods.
“Isn’t teleporting the two of you going to be exhausting? No, it may even knock you out,” Soobin frowns. “I…I have to try. She’s placed all her faith on me,” Taehyun murmurs.
“Who knows what that much mana output could do to your body?” Soobin quivers. Taehyun crouches back down resuming the final preparations, “I’ve come this far. She’ll be here soon. You should leave the scene.”
“Oh so now you don’t want me to take the fall?” Soobin hums sarcastically. Taehyun glares, “I said sorry, okay?” Soobin takes his things and walks towards the door, “Yes, yes. I shall leave you to your mighty plan. Best of luck Taehyun. Convey my wishes to the Princess too.”
Before Soobin could leave, Taehyun calls out, “Soobin, wait.” Soobin turns briefly and Taehyun murmurs, “If…If things get tough here. You can always come back to Fortuna.” Soobin’s expression falls with a touched gaze. His words moved Soobin greatly.
“You’re a fine sorcerer, you’d be welcomed into the Sorcerer’s Tower with ease,” Taehyun says. “Thank you…Taehyun. I’ll consider it,” Soobin frowns; his heart aching. Taehyun had offered him a way out, just in case.
“I’ve left a copy of the original teleportation spell in the left-hand drawer of your table, like you asked. You said you wanted the spell, right?” Taehyun hums. Soobin smiles solemnly, “Yes, I did. Thanks, Taehyun. I…good luck with everything.”
With that, the door shuts. All that is missing now was you. Just where were you? The sun was setting fast. His heart races in nervous anticipation.
Meanwhile, the dining hall bustles tensely. “Where’s Y/n?” Beomgyu questions as he sits at the dining table, him grabbing a napkin. There’s silence in the hall as the maids and some guards peer at each other, all waiting for someone to respond. Beomgyu’s eyes narrow, “Silence? I asked a question.”
“Your highness, I went to call her highness for dinner but she dismissed me saying she felt unwell,” a maid finally speaks up.
Beomgyu’s gaze darkens, “Unwell? She was perfectly fine this morning? What is the meaning of this? I made it abundantly clear to be sharp on time for dinner.” The dining hall staff remain silent as Beomgyu’s frustration emanates.
With an irritated clatter he stands up and abruptly walks to your chambers. He wouldn’t tolerate such insolence. After all, he could never be too careful, particularly with that pesky sorcerer leaving today.
He knocks on the door once, twice, a third time. No response. Beomgyu twists the knob slamming the door open and finds a heart-dropping empty bedroom. The balcony doors carelessly swung open, the windows open and curtains haphazardly flapping as the golden sunset seeps in.
Rage consumes him. No. This could not possibly be happening! She must merely be on a walk, perhaps she went to the gates to see that pathetic sorcerer off! Yes, that’s it. Anger floods his senses as the guards around him shiver.
A maid suddenly walks by with a duster in hand, “Your highness? What is the matter?” Beomgyu barks, “The Princess, you clean her room and this hallway, yes? Where did she go?”
The maid’s eyes widen and she shakily replies, “I-she told me she was needing a walk as she felt unwell. I didn’t inquire further, your highness. She went down the East Wing.”
A daunting heaviness grows in Beomgyu’s chest. The East Wing? There’s nothing but offices and administrative rooms down there. His mind whirrs, and suddenly his mind clicks. The sorcerer’s chamber.
“Guards, follow me. I believe someone has gotten too foolish. I just want to see where my beloved’s curiosity has gotten her,” he snarls. Surely, he was paranoid. She was not stupid! He was her only choice, betraying him would only lead to her demise. He would slaughter the heir to Fortuna himself if he had to prove his point. He was so close to getting Fortuna for himself and now his plan was on the verge of collapse!
No, he had to compose himself. First evaluate the situation. Then act. Find her first.
Meanwhile, your breaths tumble out of your lips raggedly. Your leg muscles burn as you run towards the sorcerers’ chamber. You didn’t have much time; you had manage to make up numerous excuses to the curious gazes that you met along your way here.
Slamming open the wooden door, your eyes meet with Taehyun. You lock the flimsy lock behind you. Fear consumes you. You knew Beomgyu was waiting for you to join him for dinner. He was an incredibly intelligent individual, he’d pick up that something was wrong very quickly, thus you didn’t have much time. You both had to work fast.
“I’m here,” you breathe out and you rush towards him. His eyes twinkle with brief relief as he takes your hands and squeezes them reassuringly, “Keep calm. We got this. I’ve got everything prepared.”
“We don’t have much time; Beomgyu has probably already noticed my disappearance,” you stammer breathlessly.
Taehyun slings his satchel strap across himself and he murmurs, “Step inside the mana circle. Keep your breathing steady, feel yourself becoming one with the mana entering your body.” You do as he says as concern paints your features, “Wait, only me?”
“Only one at a time. I’ll pass out otherwise, it’s unthinkable to teleport two humans at once! This mana circle can handle two teleportations. I figured it’s safer to do so one after the other,” He explains, distressed. The sun finally sets, only allowing the candlelight to illuminate the room.
Taehyun summons his wand and takes his small notebook in one hand. The chalk circle below you begins to glow beautifully and your eyes tear up; you both were really doing this. You look at Taehyun who closes his eyes in focus as he intricately moves his wand.
Numerous glowing runes and symbols appear around you and you find yourself feeling tingly, almost light as air. A warmth fills you. The glow illuminates his gorgeous features making him look almost angelic, unreal even.
His eyes open to meet yours leaving you breathless. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll be right behind you, sweetheart,” Taehyun hums with a smirk. You frown, he had to be.
Taehyun peers down at his notebook and begins murmuring the incantations. The symbols around you glow brighter and your body feels lighter. A grunt escapes Taehyun as he moves his wand accordingly.
“Think of my cottage, my home. Keep that in your mind. Think of absolutely nothing else,” he orders. You see his hand shaking slightly and him focusing intently building up his mana.
You close your eyes and imagine your surroundings. His home. The Woods of Mors. His dingy kitchen and alchemy corner.
All of a sudden, the clatter of armour resounds coming towards the door and your heart races, shattering your reverie. Taehyun stiffens and the runes around you flicker. No! No!
“Princess, don’t lose focus. Ignore them. We’ll get out of here, we’ll get out of here. Close your eyes and trust me,” Taehyun snaps. His eyes plead with you, “Trust me to get you out of here.”
Shakily, you nod and clamp your eyes shut despite the door banging and creaking. The guards and Beomgyu were out there. “Just what the hell is happening in there? It’s locked? Break it down! Immediately!”
“Focus. Focus,” Taehyun utters, gathering all his strength and mana. “Believe in me, princess.”
He utters a few last words before he swings his wand with a grand flourish and a sudden intense wave of energy wafts over you and the surroundings begin to disintegrate around you; you feel as though you’re floating away. You were teleporting, how odd this was.
The environment around you becomes brighter and brighter, your eyes meet with Taehyun who continues channeling his mana. He had to come with you!
Just as the last bits of your vision white out; you hear the door come crashing down and armour rapidly clatter in. Taehyun looks taken aback and before you can release a scream. Everything disappears around you in a rapid blur.
No. No. In the emptiness of the white space, a wretched scream escapes your lips. He’d be fine right? He was right behind you right? Think. Think. Woods of Mors. Woods of Mors.
You suddenly find yourself falling and flailing and your eyes clamp shut once more. With a pained grunt you find yourself falling and tumbling onto a familiar wooden floor. You cough and splutter feeling disoriented. The room was blurry; you sit up and take in your surroundings.
Indeed, you had been teleported successfully to Taehyun’s home. Your eyes widen in bizarre amazement. He did it! His spell worked! You sit up trembling violently, the smile off your face is wiped off as you realise Taehyun still hadn’t appeared beside you.
No, it would take some time. He’d be fine. Taehyun against a couple of guards and the Prince? They were no match for Taehyun. He had to appear any second now. Deliriously, you get up, “Taehyun?”
“Taehyun!” You yell shakenly. Panic floods your system as more seconds pass by with no sign of him arriving. They couldn’t have hurt him right? Tears drip down your face as fear wraps around your senses. Were you selfish to go first?
Beomgyu would surely kill him, if he got his hands on Taehyun! You sniffle, “Oh goodness, Taehyun. Please, please.” You plead openly with shaky hands clasped together. Your skin prickles as goosebumps appear. Your heart beats as though going to shatter your ribcage.
Defeatedly, you crouch down onto your knees, tears slide down your cheeks. He’s still not here? Oh Taehyun… You cover your face wiping your tears and running nose as you sob losing hope each second.
A bright luminescent orb appears before flashing the entire room and you hunch over closing your eyes to prevent being blinded. Shortly, you hear a clumsy thump. The air itself feels electric as you slowly sit up opening your eyes with a squint.
Your eyes catch glimpse of a figure lying on the floor groaning and grunting. You lunge forward with sobs wracking your body. “I was so scared! Taehyun, oh my god!” You place your hands on his weakly rising and falling chest. His eyes meet yours, “Mhm…told you, I’d be right,” he coughs, “Behind you.”
Your heart sinks as you spot blood pooling under the right side of his torso. Your lips tremble, “Taehyun- what? What happened?” He blinks slowly, his breaths ragged and uneven.
“That,” he hisses in pain, “B-Bastard, sliced into me, ah- fuck.” You shake, “He- you’re fine right? Can you heal? You have healing spells right?”
He lies his head back on the floor with a dull gaze, exhaustion evident on his features, “Don’t think…I have enough,” his blinking slows, “mana…strength.” You cup his cheek shaking his face slightly, “Taehyun! Taehyun stay with me!”
Taehyun deliriously hums as his eyes closed, “Mm, just fine. Just a s-scratch.” You snarl tearfully, “This is not- where are your medical supplies? God, stay with me.”
Taehyun smiles almost blissfully as pain envelopes him, “Mm…medication- alchemy corner…cabinet.” The young sorcerer goes still and your eyes widen, “Taehyun! Taehyun! Can you hear me?” He was unconscious this wasn’t good!
You hurriedly peer at the alchemy corner seeing the several cabinets, which one was it? He passed out before he could say! You had to act quick he was losing too much blood! You had no idea how to take care of injuries! No, you had to try. You’d mimic what the palace healer would do, is all. How hard could that be?
You couldn’t let anything happen to Taehyun. He had to remain alive. After all, he was in this condition because of you.
It was your turn to take care of things.
You’d save him. You had to save him. You peer once more at his bloodied and pale face. In even the face of death, he looked ethereal.
You knew you couldn’t lose him.
You won’t.

◔ ┈ LOADING … TRAINEE PROFILE INITIATED !
KIM SEHUN ( READ MORE HERE )
AGE 23 ( 5 MAY 2000 )
TRAINED FOR 2 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS ( SIGNED JULY 2021 )
INTRODUCTION VIDEO FOUND … PRESS PLAY ?
this is what the stack of songs that have yet to see the light of fame being hoarded is for, sehun reminds himself. the camera light blinds him in an instant, the spotlight focused on where he’s situated in the room. to say he is tense would be an understatement. it shows, from the way visage struggles to hold onto a smile, to the way fingers persistently—desperately attempt to refrain from fiddling. such sentiments disappear as fast as they appear when the music initiates the start of recording; the previous version of himself faded into nothingness. the deafening silence of the room is replaced by the smoothness of lyrics that weave into a song to showcase where the core of expertise lies within sehun; a versatile flow in rapping that often switches with high and low notes of vocals, all equally distributed through to the end. and when the melody concludes itself, sehun is quick to bow as a gesture of courtesy despite it being towards a camera of all things. “hello,” the voice greets with a tone of softness, gentle in its nature — a feature which is bound to come off as a surprise, given the unrelenting pace of rapping and singing just moments prior. “i’m kim sehun. i’m 23 years old, and i hope to become an idol that focuses on producing and rapping. if you stick around, i’ll be sure to show more sides of myself to you in the future.”

it’s been a while since he last visited tapeworm, surely. especially after the amount of schedules always catching up to sehun whenever he plans to drop by. this time escaping was no easy feat, either. but he managed to, at the last minute, thankfully. the confines of the venue are the same as usual, remaining a familiar comfort to sehun — coming in as a close second to the dorms and the warmth of blankets.
he is almost never a forgotten face in spite of all his quietness and tendency to hole himself into a corner table; most of the times. it should’ve been a good night for him, full of fun and such alike, but how funny is it that fate has other plans for him, precisely in the form of a headache that comes as a person. not just any person — park seojin is hardly ever just any person to kim sehun.
after all, there is really only one person who’d curse outwardly at the mere sight of him, and only one person who sehun would let see such a displeased expression on his visage clearly so. what crime did sehun commit in his past life to come across seojin, much less be stuck at the same table as him; to have to be within such close proximity for however long tonight will drag on for, when it is precisely seojin being everything that he avoids?
sehun grunts, his mouth attached to the straw of his drink to furiously sip at the near empty glass. then he stops — crossing arms over chest and slouching in his seat with a sharp, piercing glare. “can’t you, like, find somewhere else to sit?”

lgcjinyoung.
a clerk at a flower shop doesn't sound so bad for a side—gig, sehun would probably pick working at a place such as this for a first choice if he were to ever want to try out a part—time job. working for dispatch, however? it's an easy answer. ( he'd pick being in the world of business over that anyday. )
and even if jinyoung were to give away his relationship status at some point, in front of him, it'd be none of sehun's business to get involved. to put it simply, kim sehun is no more than a person willing to lend a hand this time, no matter.
“that's fine,” a smile curls, sitting on visage. “i'm sure they'll appreciate whatever you get them, if you've been great friends for a long time.” it's reassurance that isn't asked for, but offered openly, anyway. “we can start with their favorite color? i'm sehun, by the way.”

Elle me regarda :
‘’ Tu viens manger ?
‘’ Tu as une raison.

Angelic: The Madness (Park Chanyeol/Reader)
Author's note: This picture of Yixing's back is exactly how I imagine his angel self to be. He's just missing wings 😍
ALL CHAPTERS
Her
My eyes fluttered open slowly, the golden light of the morning sun streaming into my bedroom through the slivers of space between the thick curtains.
I let out a soft sigh, feeling a sense of contentment take root deep within my heart. The restlessness that had become omnipresent ever since he had kissed me that night had died down and dissolved into nothingness.
All because of the man lying beside me.
My brother.
Yixing.
His arms encased me in their hold around my waist, the span of his unfurled ivory wings embracing me. Drawing me into his protection.
Fast asleep he was, the unblemished planes of his face creating a visage of peace. Of comfort. He radiated them, making them seep into every part of me.
On pure instinct, I curled up into him. Moulding my body in order to fit his. Yearning to be near him.
A gentle smile tugged at the rosy plushness of his mouth and he opened his eyes.
"Good morning, princess."
I wanted to smile at him and I wanted to reciprocate the love and adoration that were glowing in his dark eyes. But instead, I felt a horrible feeling come flooding into my heart.
Guilt.
Over the realization that I had led one of my own brothers astray. My festering lust had led Yixing to sin. And when I had fallen into bed with him last night, I had sealed his fate along with my own.
Tears prickled at my eyes and I blinked them away. But it was impossible for me to hide my distress from him. Or his abilities.
His eyes widened when he felt it, his hands rising to cup my face. Drawing me to the warmth of his lips.
I parted my mouth in submission to his exploration, my eyes rolling back into my head at the taste of him. He tasted like honeyed sunbeams, his warmth making me dizzy in its wake.
Fighting back my reluctance to part from him, my hands found their way to his shoulders and I gave him a gentle push.
"We should stop..." I sighed.
His lips traversed the line of my jaw before descending to the column of my throat. In contradiction to my words, I let my head fall back into the cushion beneath me, baring more of my flesh to his hungered exploration.
Offering up myself to him, like a servant to her master.
"Your body is giving away your bluff, my sweet," he chuckled.
His hands came to palm the fullness of my breasts and immediately, I arched into his touch. Nipples growing hard under the tweaks of his thumbs.
And when his mouth came to engulf one of the hardened pebbles in its heat, I let out a moan, my own hands weaving into his hair. Tugging at his raven locks while he suckled at my breasts. Until I was left gasping from the sting, my flesh reddened and swollen. Until I was aching and dripping between my thighs.
Filled with fresh lust, that demanded to be quenched.
The itch in the scars on my back made me toss and turn fitfully. Restlessly.
While I watched Yixing descend the length of my body in a trail of open-mouthed kisses, his large hands spread my thighs open.
And when he brought the wet swelter of his mouth down upon the place where I ached the most, I let out a broken moan.
Loud enough for the rest of my brothers to hear.
Yixing was vicious in his assault upon my raw and tender flesh, making me gush and buck into his mouth. Wanting him to ravage me, utterly and absolutely.
He kept his eyes on me as he devoured me, his fevered gaze commanding me to remain silent while he coaxed out every drop of my honey that he could get. Using his fingers and his tongue.
Ecstasy bloomed like a spring flower through my body, spreading outward from my core to the rest of me, with each dip and stroke of his fingers and tongue.
My legs quivered around his shoulders as he burrowed fervently into my yielding flesh.
With each passing moment, the pleasure grew and swelled. Until it became impossible for me to hold back.
"I...Y-yixing..." I moaned, my back curving in an almost painful arch as I reached the very precipice of my restraint, my body tautening as I braced for release.
And when it finally came to claim me, mere moments later, I let go with a guttural cry, my wings spreading free to their full span.
He stayed between my thighs, easing me through my release with indulgent, coaxing licks, hands cupping the cheeks of my rump. Until I fell limp upon the pillows. Boneless with exhaustion. Weakened, but sated.
"I know that he is still somewhere deep inside you," he spoke, his hand cupping my jaw, tilting my face up so that he could examine my eyes. "And while I cannot purge him out of you just yet, I can help you abate the symptoms. It is my duty to protect you in every way that I can. From any and every danger, be it external or internal."
I nodded, craning my neck up to meet his mouth, to kiss him as a way to express my gratitude. My palpable relief, that he too, was now privy to my secret.
With every warm glide of his tongue upon mine, I felt like I was being gathered into a bubble of reassurance. Of safety.
Yixing felt like a shelter for me. He felt like salvation.
Despite being fully aware of the consequences of his actions, he hadn't hesitated in coming to my aid when I needed him. And for that, I was eternally grateful to him.
Nevertheless, I decided to convey as much to him, my hands caressing the ivory feathers of his wings.
"You know what will happen to us if the others find out? If Junmyeon finds out?" I asked.
Yixing sighed deeply, his eyes filling up with pain as he envisioned the agonizing fate that awaited us, should our secret be revealed.
"I know, sweetness," he said, his voice hushed. "But atleast when we'll fall, we'll fall together."
The moment he said that, I felt the lingering inebriation of ecstasy wane and vanish, to be replaced by dread. He noticed it.
"In a way, I've become bound to you, princess," he said. "Our fates have become intertwined," he said, lacing his fingers into mine. A symbolism.
Tears prickled at my eyes at the sight. I had doomed him to suffer, all because of my mistakes.
He leaned in and pressed his lips to mine.
"I vowed to protect you in every way, and I will, my sweet. But we mustn't let anyone know," he breathed against my lips.
I nodded again, chasing his lips once more. He grinned and leaned down to kiss me again. Deeper and slower.
Until I was moaning into his mouth with every pass of his tongue upon mine. Until I was breathlessly pulling myself away from him, hands locked in his hair. "Where did you learn to kiss like that, Yixing?" I asked, stunned.
"You bring out the best in me, sweetness."
He smirked, pulling me down with him, wrapping the sheets around us. "Now let's sleep for a bit, yeah? Lu and Baek will be making pancakes for breakfast."
I had absolutely no problem in slipping into a deep, dreamless sleep, curled against him.

Him
Chanyeol was absolutely irate. Livid.
A vein in his forehead throbbed painfully as he stood within the raging fire that had engulfed the wine cellar of his mansion.
The fire that he had created.
He missed the flames licking at his flesh, reminding him of his home.
Hell.
He watched with a savage sense of delight as the flames hissed and crackled, the smoke filling up his lungs.
Cleansing his rage.
And the sole cause of his rage?
His angel.
His grand scheme to get her to summon him had failed. Miserably.
Chanyeol had believed that his plan of filling up her dreams with the most sensual and lascivious visions would make her call out to him.
But instead, he had driven her into he arms of her brother.
That swine. Yixing.
"Bastard," Chanyeol muttered angrily, throwing a fresh blaze from the palm of his hand into the already uncontrollable fire, watching it roar with a sense of satisfaction.
How dare he touch her? Even after he had laid his claim on her? The insolence!
Every time he closed his eyes, all he could imagine was the sound of her broken moans while Yixing knelt between her open legs.
Not him.
Yixing.
"I'm going to kill him," Chanyeol muttered. "I'm going to kill him for putting his hands on her-"
"CHANYEOL!"
The door to the wine cellar swung open and on the other side stood his brothers. Sehun and Kyungsoo. Wearing identical expressions of horror and irritation.
"Have you lost your mind? Burning our house down?" Sehun shouted.
Yes, I've lost my mind, Chanyeol wanted to reply.
"End this madness right this instant," came Kyungsoo's command.
Oh, brother, he thought. The madness has only just begun...

Blood, Sweat, and Tears - Chapter 3
Word Count: 1865
Trigger Warnings: Post Traumatic Stress, references to murder.
"It makes no sense."
Sehun was standing in the middle of the lounge, the bright lights of Seoul illuminating the night sky through the wide window of the estate, offering a breathtaking view. He had returned from the service in Icheon, continuing to mull over the information he had received from the old ladies about the murder that had taken place.
"Why target an innocent girl and her grandmother? All I heard was praise from the townspeople," he explained to the older male up front, who hadn't turned his gaze away from the view.
He was shorter than the raven-headed male, his brown hair swept and parted, and he wore a red button-down underneath his black velvety jacket along with slacks, a gold necklace around his neck along with several rings on his fingers, a glass of scotch in his hand. He had a round face, soft cheeks, thick eyebrows, dark eyes that shone with wisdom and patience, and his thin lips were in a tight line.
"Even I'm not sure," he eventually faced Sehun, a frown on his visage. "Our enemy is ruthless. Until we find a connection between them, we can't come to any conclusions. However, that doesn't mean we shouldn't be cautious."
He nodded in agreement, recalling when he witnessed the victim's granddaughter, her vibrancy sucked out of her due to the impromptu arrival of violence in her life. "Junmyeon hyung... what do we do about the girl?"
Before he could answer, Suho placed his glass on the table, pouring some more scotch before bringing the rim of the glass toward his lips, taking a slow sip, "That depends on you. If you want to leave her be, go right ahead. If not, well, you know what happens when you bring an innocent bystander into our world. If she runs away, you'll just have to live with it."
Sehun knew he had a point. Up until now, the girl had led a normal life, and she was now exposed to their world. He didn't want to think about what would happen if he brought her into it, however, he couldn't just leave her be.
He remembered how small she looked, closed off from the rest of the world as she suffered in silence, not once allowing a single tear to fall from her eyes. Sehun still wished he had approached her during the service.
"Don't worry, hyung," he assured Suho. "She won't run away... I'll keep her safe from whoever is trying to harm her. If her Halmeoni was a target, she's most likely one too."
The door creaked, a pair of hushed footsteps hitting the shiny mahogany floor. The third male approach Sehun and Suho, his light brown hair slicked with several messy strands brushing over his right temple and forehead. He had bronze skin and an alluring gaze, along with a tall nose and small full lips. He wore a black pinstriped suit with a lilac-colored button-down underneath, a deep purple ribbon tie pulling the look together.
"Kai!" Suho exclaimed, gesturing for him to come closer. "Gwenchana? Do you need anything?"
"I just came to tell you that another syndicate was spotted trying to take our imports," the second-youngest male spoke. "They'll be at the Han River again tomorrow."
"I see," the older male hummed, looking to his feet as he contemplated his next move. "I want you, Sehun-ah, and Chanyeol-ah to handle this situation tomorrow."
"If you insist," Sehun bowed for a moment, his hands tucked into the slacks of his warm taupe-colored suit. "After we handle our little mob war, I'll go back to protecting her."

Haneul was meticulous, folding her clothes and placing them in her suitcase before moving onto her essential toiletries.
The house was silent, yet the crickets never stopped their nightly singing, but there was no singing of her own or the piano to accompany them this time around. She zipped her suitcase closed before standing, moving along to packing anything else she needed or items that would remain in storage.
After the service, Haneul had spent the rest of the day taking down pictures that hung on the wall, disassembling the dining table, putting the furniture and antiques on sale as she mulled over what she would do with the house.
Several cardboard boxes stood in the middle of the living room, some taped shut while others were waiting to be filled. As she sat before one box, Haneul commenced by putting the expensive silverware and plates inside, grabbing a Sharpie marker and naming each box after closing them.
She wouldn't need much once she went to Seoul. The most she could get was a single apartment just for her, and even that would prove to be expensive. For now, she would have to consider having a roommate or even living at The Magic Shop.
Tomorrow morning, the storage truck would come by to take everything before she left for Seoul, and this house will remain empty, haunted by the ghosts of a murder. Haneul exhaled and leaned back against the couch, taking one final look around the living room and moving one of the boxes to the side, traversing toward the kitchen for a glass of water.
She reached for the cupboard, extending her hand and taking a glass while turning on the faucet. Bringing the rim of the glass toward her lip, she heard a bang coming from the wooden frame of the window and she exclaimed with fright, her glass falling from her hand and shattering at her feet.
Her pulse throbbed, clutching her chest as the wind howled, causing the window to rattle, and she could hear the gunshots as they rang in her ears. The scent of blood touched her nostrils, death's chill creating goosebumps on her skin, and Haneul stumbled out of the kitchen, crouching in the corner of the living room and curling up, bringing her knees to her chest. She covered her ears, squeezing her eyes shut as she attempted to block out the sounds of the gun. Her breath hitched, and she buried her face in her knees, hoping that she would just disappear, but the terror continued to rage around her.
Once the howling quieted, she pulled her hands away from her ears, welcoming that silence that surrounded her in its fleeting comfort, more tears cascading down her cheeks.
With a sniffle, Haneul pushed herself up once again, grabbing her coat and slipping her arms through the sleeves. She took her suitcase and checked her wallet, counting her money before pulling her hoodie over her head and finding her sneakers.
She rolled the suitcase toward the front door and slipped the keys under the welcome mat, not once looking back at the house. Gripping the suitcase's handle, she pushed through the door and made her way through the open front yard, opening the gates and walking down the stone steps, the cool spring breeze blowing through the few tresses of hair that weren't covered by her hoodie.
I can't stay here.

In the late hours of the night, Ilsung walked down the main street, carrying a carton with two cups of milk tea. The stores were brightly lit, the occasional car driving by while the townspeople walked through the streets, conversing with each other or with those they ran into.
He had promised Haneul he would help her pack her things before she left, but he wasn't thrilled with the prospect of her leaving.
Besides the danger that was evident in the city, there was more to it. Icheon was her home, and her most precious memories remained here, and the thought of her going far away was his biggest fear.
He recalled their time in high school, leaving America to live in Korea, where he had met her, Surin, and Minsoo. The four of them were inseparable, and they made plans to never leave each other. The innocence of adolescence was blissful in the sense that the violence of Seoul could never touch this town.
He recalled the school festivals they attended, spending long hours in Surin's mother's café, volunteering at Minsoo's family clinic, and even visiting Haneul and Soonbok's house to study. He understood that witnessing something so gruesome would make someone leave, but if she allowed them in so they could help her, Haneul could learn to forget what happened and move on eventually.
Running away would only have her live with this trauma.
Ultimately, the blonde male had found the lone street where the houses were lined, the stone steps of the gate before him. He hoped she was doing alright living alone for the night. Ilsung took a deep breath and climbed the stairs, knocking on the gate and calling toward the other side.
"Angel! It's me!" He mustered up a gentle smile. "I brought some bubble tea and I'm here to help you pack!"
There was no answer. Not the sound of the front door opening, those soft, airy footsteps, nor was the lock jingling.
"Haneul?" Ilsung tried again, placing his hand against the gate, only to find it swing open with a low creak. His brown eyes shifted along the front yard, and the lights happened to remain on. "Is she sleeping...?" He muttered. "Why would she forget to lock the gate...?"
He walked toward the front door, taking his shoes off and knocking once, but like the gate, it was already open.
"What the hell?" He questioned, walking inside and setting the bubble tea down. "Angel, you there? You okay?" He wondered as he found the living room, full of closed boxes that would head for the storage center first thing in the morning.
Again, there was no answer.
He searched the kitchen, his widening when he realized there was shattered glass on the floor. Careful not to stab his feet, Ilsung stepped out of the kitchen, walking through the bedroom corridor.
"Where are you?!" He opened the screen doors of Soonbok's room, and he found it was vacant. The last room he checked was Haneul’s, grabbing the doorknob and swinging it open.
The curtains were pulled over the window, the bedsheets were neatly folded, and her bookshelf was still full. The screen doors of her closet were open, and there was not a trace of her clothes anywhere, nor were her cosmetics and toiletries.
He went looking through the house once more, calling out to Haneul frantically, and yet again, her voice hadn't reached his ears. Falling to his knees, Ilsung planted his hands on the wooden planks of the floor, the emptiness of the house stirring anxiety within the pit of his stomach. He thought he could convince her, that maybe she would stay and forget.
That maybe she would stay for him.
However, he didn't know how desperately she wanted to be rid of that gruesome memory. In one capricious moment, the blonde male realized that it was too late.
She had run away.

First Impressions
Vinrent trois filles ensemble.
« All right. » avait dit Zhen « we can do it »

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
January 19th, the day of the monthly rebellion council, each month a different house, each month a different problem arising. Humans in charge getting demoted for others because of old age, positions being assigned and changed for everyone. Everyone except for EXO. We don’t know why but they don’t age, as if stuck in time, maybe it’s because of their odd powers over the elements or just plain genetic mutation related to their hybridism. They never become too old, only wiser and stronger. Today the council is held by the hybrid in command of the Marseille safe house, Kim Junmyeon or as he is called by many; Suho. One of the more hospitable of his compatriots, Suho is a gentle smile rabbit hybrid controller of the rain and rivers maker of waves and prophet of water. The French safe house is on the smaller side of the spectrum when it comes to size but its subterranean tunnels and pods make up for the lack of space above ground. Its simple exterior resembles a medium size and ultimately normal house situated in the downtowns of Marseille, shades of browns and beige adorning its exterior.
The council is held beneath the actual house in the tunnels, of course they don’t look like tunnels, more like underground clean, clear and white corridors, or else the prophet of frost would have never survived the walk. The council room was in one of the tunneled pods, larger than the rest big enough to hold at least 36 people, which was exactly how much the council had. There were the twelve hybrids in command, their companion and people of trust and the twelve human allies.
Today there were three newbies in the council. Do Kyungsoo or D.O, earth prophet, the one that helped in building these tunnels actually, and Horned Owl hybrid in command of the Colorado safe house, had a new appointed person of trust. D.O had speckled brown wings that trailed a little behind him matching his hair of the same colour and pattern. His new trusted person named Renae or Ren for short, had short bobbed hair of reddish-brown and brown eyes, long full wings trailing behind her in a mix of light and dark gray feathers. Calm and quiet at D.O’s side holding what seemed like a book of some kind. Following suit Lu Han or simply Luhan, deer hybrid in command of the Tokyo safe house and prophet of mind, soft blondish hair, long blonde ears, a small white tail and doe like eyes had stepped forward accompanied by one of his own, a doe girl name Ceren. Soft wavy auburn hair and gentle brown eyes, visage covered in freckles she seemed completely out of it, distracted by everyone and everything seemingly was what the girl looked like long auburn ears and a small white tail similar to Luhan’s. And lastly the last newbie, accompanying Oh Sehun or just Sehun, the Siamese cat hybrid in charge of the Sydney safe house, blonde hair with a brown undercut and sharp brown ears, prowled forward in tow with the tall young man. The newbie was named Reese and clearly they told everyone of their genderfluidity a slight snark in their voice, brown hair and bright blue eyes matching their commander’s all the while looking around with what could only be deemed a “sarcastic” grin.
Suho finally stepped forward black ears straight and attentive sitting on a mop of hair of the same colour. Bright brown eyes gleaming with slight worry as he sat down in his chair, a lop-eared rabbit hybrid sitting beside him while the human stayed behind, standing.
“I’ll make this quick. We have a problem; there is a spy in our ranks.”
Charming the Lady [Super Junior, Donghae]
I can’t seem to find the creator of this gif but I found it on this website which is hella shady. If someone knows the creator of this gif or is the creator of this gif, please contact me so I can give you credit.
Characters : Donghae || OC
Regency AU
She chewed on her lower lip feeling rather out of place in the large gathering the metal cage around her chest tightening as she tried to breathe. Though her debut had been rather fantastic, with gentlemen of the highest class buzzing around her like bees and the only thing that had bothered her the entire time was her corset digging into her back and maybe a certain charming gentleman, or rather Duke, not that she’d ever admit the latter. Now the feeling was back, both, the painful corset digging into her skin and the butterflies swarming in her stomach. All she wanted to do was stand up and take her leave but watching her brother Count Minseok engage in deep conversation her Ladyship Choi Dambi, she sighed before leaning back into her seat earning her a glare from one of the older pompous ladies sitting not too far away.
No, Minah definitely didn’t like such gatherings, especially when she could be doing other things which didn’t involve sitting upright with a tight smile and hairpins sticking into her skull as airheaded men flitted by only speaking to her about redundant things such as the weather or the number of people who had come to the gathering. Sitting in one spot was difficult enough let alone sitting in a spot and listening to boorish talk that could never stimulate the mind.
The only reason she was here was because of the lavish food.
And maybe the host of the ball who she was watching the entire time as he made himself sociable, mostly to the ladies who had arrived.
Minah had already mentally shot these new entrants a dozen times with her beloved rifle, but that was besides the point.
"You're rather silent you're Ladyship, very unlike you. Why don't you dance with me instead of sitting here like a rock?" A familiar voice cut through her unobvious (very obvious) observations. She turned up to see Viscount Oh Sehun smirking down at her. She rolled her eyes.
Duke Lee Donghae spotted the object of his affections sitting rather silently (which was odd, for she was a restless woman) as Viscount Oh Sehun; who, had been his acquaintance for a short time, approched her. All of the sudden, Donghae's attention was completely diverted from the "extremely interesting" talk with the ladies on his excellent skills as a host and the multiple questions on his latest compositions. But all of the sudden he wasn't paying attention to anything but Viscount Oh Sehun's hand gently grazing Lady Minah's shoulder and then reaching behind her back.
His feet moved across the large hall rather quickly as his mind raced, wondering why on earth Lady Minah hadn't landed a punch on the Viscount's pretty visage. After all, her greeting to him had been rather similar, where she had fenced him into a corner after a heated duel (he had imagined he was dueling a master) during one of his first visit to Count Minseok's estate. It was only when the fencing mask (which she had insisted on wearing to avoid an unfair bias) came off that he realized he was face to face with the Count's little sister. He could never forget the impression she had left behind, declaring to her brother that this was proof that women could do anything men could an extremely scandalous statement, but her wild expression endeared her to the Duke.
So when Oh Sehun approached this dear person, the Duke was more than willing to snap his hand off. As he approached, he saw Minah’s reproachful frown at Sehun as he childishly tugged at her elegantly styled hair.
“Cousin Sehun, do not trouble me or you will face my wrath once we leave.” She growled lowly as the Viscount smirked back at her and Donghae let out a sigh of relief before stepping closer.
“Will you hunt me down with that dratted rifle of yours?” Sehun chuckled as Minah rolled her eyes and when they did land on the Duke’s handsome face, she let out a loud curse, trying to shove her silly cousin away. Her narrowed eyes met his as she stood and curtsied while the Viscount tried hard to control his laughter.
“Do forgive me your Grace,” Sehun bowed as Donghae nodded in greeting “do let me introduce to you my cousin…”
“I have the pleasure of being Lady Kim’s acquaintance,” Donghae replied, his lips curling into a smirk as Minah shot him a glare. He enjoyed watching her squirm under his gaze knowing that the nonchalant expression gracing his face was causing her great anger before bowing with a flourish “how do you do you’re Ladyship?”
Minah shot him a short curtsey much to his amusement as he held out his hand to press a kiss on the back of her hand. Sehun watched his cousin’s eyes flutter between confusion and pure anger as she drew her hand back.
“Cousin Sehun, weren’t we going to dance?” she said through gritted teeth as Sehun turned to her with a bewildered look before noticing.
“Oh, I had drawn closer to request a dance from you, for I noticed you had scarcely danced a single dance.” Donghae smiled as Sehun bowed.
“You’re Grace, you can dance with my cousin, for I was only teasing her.” he hissed as Minah’s foot very firmly pressed down on his. He turned to her and nudged her forward by pressing her forward into Donghae’s outstretched hand as the next dance began almost on cue. His gloved hand intertwined with her ungloved one as Minah felt herself being pulled towards the man. She halted.
“You’re Grace,” Donghae flinched as her voice reached his ears “I haven’t accepted.” Donghae’s brain let out a couple of colourful words before turning back to her.
“Would you have said no?” he sent her a charming smile that momentarily blinded her as she pursed her lips “and how many times have I told you, we are close enough to end the formalities between us.”
“No.” she looked down as she found herself being whirled into the dance. Minah was an adept dancer, but she didn’t enjoy it as much as she enjoyed going hunting with her brother or reading. She particularly squirmed in the arms of the man who immensely attracted her yet remained aloof in most ways. Her Ladyship Kim Minah knew her charms, she knew exactly how to use them and the fact that the Duke showed interest yet remained aloof enough caused her to lose the little cool she had. She was torn between physically hurting him or, breaking down and confessing her liking for him and the former idea seemed to appeal to her more and more as his dark mischievous eyes and handsome smile looked down at her.
“It has been quite a while since we have met.” Donghae commented, his eyes sweeping over the face that had charmed him almost as soon as he had seen it. The deep brown eyes that betrayed most of her emotions met his in an intense gaze as the memory of their last meeting flashed through the Duke’s mind. It had a rather…lasting impression.
It had been a rather chilly day when the Duke had visited Count Kim Minseok to join him on a hunt. The party had been joined by the Count’s little sister, much to Lee Donghae’s amusement as she arrived, hair bound by a single ribbon, out of its usual elegant up do. Her skin was bare of all ornamentation except those that were required of her. Donghae had never found a woman more attractive in his life.
The parties had departed, armed with their respective rifles and hounds, trudging through the marshy ground as Donghae had kept close to Minah, offering to help her over the slushy soil, only to have her purse her lips and reluctantly take his hand. Donghae had realized one thing, he quite liked holding the soft hands of the Lady and had taken multiple opportunities of doing so throughout the hunt. Donghae remembered Minah had stayed close to her brother occasionally calling out to the hounds if they sniffed too long at unnecessary things, caressing their soft large heads if they bounded close to her. Donghae remembers the citrus smell of her mingling with the smell of the wet earth as she turned around to him with a smile.
“You’re Grace, do keep up. The dogs have split, so choose your party for my brother, the Count and I will be competing.”
Donghae inadvertently found himself siding with the fierce lady as Minseok shot him a smirk before turning to his sister.
“We all know who is going to win.”
“I shall prove you wrong dear brother.”
“Yes, you looked rather surprised when my fist met your face Lee Donghae.” The citrus smelling woman not bothering with formalities anymore as Donghae raised his eyebrow at her, wondering whether he liked the way his name rolled off her tongue or if he was a masochist to find the manner she had punched him rather amusing. His grip around her waist tightened as he narrowed his eyes.
“That was great disrespect Kim Minah,” he felt her shiver just like she had when the two had taken shelter under a tree due to the unexpected rain during the hunt. Her eyes widened just like they had when his breath had ghosted over her face and her cheeks lit up just like they had when their lips nearly brushed “I didn’t like that” his voice whispered into her heated ear as the dance came to a close. Minah almost let out a whimper before pushing away from him though his hand still held on to hers. The last time she had landed a punch on his face before storming off with a thick blush painting her face but this time, didn’t want her to leave just yet.
“Come with me,” He whispered as she shook her head but still followed him along as Donghae tried to make an escape from the annoyingly crowded ballroom “I remember you liked dogs.” He said, still leading her towards the doors, only to have a group of ladies blocking the way.
“You’re Grace!” one crooned, fluttering her eyelashes at him as Minah paused, looking at the airheaded women who were starting to throw themselves at him, rolling her eyes.
“Have you fine ladies made Lady Kim’s acquaintance?” the Duke interrupted, as the many eyes turned to her with in surprise. Minah chose to curtsy stiffly before shooting them a glare which made them back away before turning to him.
“You wished to show me your hunters you’re Grace?”
Whispers between the ladies.
“Of course my dear lady,” he smiled, noticing the glares Minah was throwing at the ladies trying to get to close. He bowed to the ladies “I will take your leave now, please do enjoy yourselves.”
They could never reach the Duke’s kennels without the multiple interruptions from the many hopeful ladies at the ball, much to Minah’s anger. Sure she was attracted to the man beyond belief, but his charming nature seemed to affect everything and everybody! Minah’s greeting started to get more caustic and rude as the ladies simpered and batted their eyelids at the unaffected man who took it all with a smile. No, he enjoyed Minah’s reactions far more, he liked watching the bubbling jealousy which was apparent in her eyes as she moved closer to him and he pretended to be unaffected, causing her to be more aggressive about it. Donghae wasn’t complaining at all.
So by the time they did reach anywhere near the kennel, Minah’s fingers were intertwined with Donghae’s and her face was sit with a determined look combined with a blush as Donghae’s thumb danced over her knuckles.
“You’re rather popular with the ladies.” Minah managed to choke out as Donghae chuckled, raising her hand to press a kiss on the firm knuckles he had just ran his thumb over. Minah nearly pulled her hand back in surprise as Donghae shook his head.
“No, not always.” He replied.
“So you’re kind to every woman.” Minah rolled her eyes only to feel a sharp tug at her arm and her body being pulled towards Donghae’s chest. She looked up to meet his dark warm eyes looking down at her as his arm wound around her waist.
“Lee Donghae!” she began, her face red and her lips parted in a defiance only to fall silent as she looked back into his eyes.
“Not always this kind my dear lady.” He whispered, before pulling away, much to Minah’s frustration. Donghae smirked before his eyes widened as Minah’s fingers dug into the lapels of his coat and yanked him forward, sealing their lips together with a ferocity that expressed her feeling of latent attraction and frustration, Donghae’s arms wound back around her waist, pulling her impossibly close as her returned the kiss fervently, his tongue swiped over her lip as her hands moved up his chest and around his neck.
When they did part, Minah glared at Donghae “Well, you’d better not be this kind to anyone else you’re Grace.”
Donghae’s arm wound around her waist yet again “I wouldn’t dream of it lady, I’ll be this kind to you as long as you’ll be my Duchess,” he chuckled watching Minah’s face turn redder than possible “do I take that as a yes my Lady?” he began only to feel a sharp jerk at his coat yet again as her lips met with his yet again. Donghae smiled as he deepened the kiss as the sounds of barking and yapping dogs echoed in the distance, mingling with the music from the ballroom not too far away.
Asking Count Minseok for his approval could always come later
CHANYEOL
When he was young, he called it the War Room.
Perhaps at such a young age, he should have found himself mesmerized by the size and the grandeur of such an imposing space. Perhaps, he should have been more interested in the conversation and the way war lord voices were brought to the open here, resulting in the neatness with which these men went to and decided on battle. Or perhaps, most important of all, the way each man had a voice that was finally, truly allowed to have a freely offered opinion.
But all he could concentrate on was how the room was saturated by the scent of death.
Crafted entirely out of metal, iron, and steel, the council hall was initially meant to represent the infallibility of making a united choice, of considering the concerns of every general present, but, to Chanyeol, something inside the room was decaying. At first, he thought it was because he was young and inexperienced with the nature of the hall, but the more his Sire ushered them in, the more he knew the choices made within the confines of the walls meant someone would not survive. Always, there was an agreement on the length of someone’s life and always, it was Chanyeol’s hands that would up rip out their heart. Always, it was Chanyeol’s mouth that would drink them dry.
And so, he called it the War Room. And so, he was punished.
As a boy he was free with his mouth and his tongue, letting words roll into the atmosphere with little thought or care. So when his Sire heard the statement, when his Sire heard the blatant disrespect, he set about a punishment that left Chanyeol bleeding, aching, and begging to die for weeks. And while he never vocalized the thought again, it did little to change his perception.
Even now, standing in the room he finds his chest feels pressed and constricted under the pressure of thought and action. His breathing is tense and tight, body trapped in a perpetual state of abject shock. The sound of rubber boots resonating through the council hall never ceases to amaze him, the way the steel and metal of the walls eats the panic in the footsteps and swallows their echoes whole. He can count on one hand the number of times they’ve had to open these doors since he became Sire, and perhaps this is why he is never used to the sound or the symbolism. Always, he grits his teeth at the sound of chairs being dragged from the circular table. Always, his generals keep their eyes lowered, unable to look one another in the eye in these moments of entry, shielding themselves from the implication and the heaviness of grief.
They keep their eyes low, but Chanyeol admires the way they enter. He can see it from his position at the back center of the room, how their postures remain tall and straight. When they lower themselves to their seats, each engraved delicately with their own crest, they sit with an elegance found only on those ready to greet hell with open arms and hungry mouths. Once seated they settle into the idea of death and find comfort in it, allowing them to raise their heads and regard Chanyeol with a preparedness that reminds him of why they were all chosen. He selected these men, watched them and longed for them because of their strength and their skills, and found that he had sworn loyalty to them before their blood had ever passed his lips.
They regard him now, like always, with clenched jaws and guarded eyes. It is necessary and both painful to speak, and he finds himself inhaling with a rattle to his lungs. And while he is unmoved and unaffected by the deaths of others, standing in the room and bringing words to the atmosphere forces him to acknowledge that the future may hold several empty spaces at this table. Standing in the room forces him to imagine eight phantom limbs amidst his countless others.
At the sound of his inhale his generals turn their eyes to him, each iris and pupil swimming with unprecedented conviction. They sense something is amiss and are preparing to protect each other, and Chanyeol, at the cost of their own lives, but still, they cannot possibly know how grave their situation has become.
‘I’d like to start immediately,’ he begins, tongue dry and fighting against the movement of his lips, ‘but I am grateful for all of you.’
His generals say nothing, merely nod slowly in mutual agreement. A few sounds of fidgeting move throughout the room, a slight discomfort at the lack of tradition serving only to put some members further on edge. Usually, there is an oath to keep what lies in the room secret. Usually, blood promises are sworn over chests to keep strategy within the room safe. But Chanyeol doesn’t think either of these things seem to fit, not today when everything he knows about being a Sire is going through a tremendous upheaval, and so he bypasses tradition in light of their non-traditional circumstances.
‘There are two things I’d like to bring to your attention this morning,’ he continues, finally allowing himself to sit. His body feels tense and old as it settles in the seat, and he knows it is because his bones are tired of keeping his secrets. ‘The first, and he shall be honoured for this, Jongin has discovered evidence of a mole within our brotherhood.’
Bodies press their backs into chars, and Chanyeol imagines if these had been made of wood the hall would be noisy with the movement. For a while no one dares to speak, they simply bring their eyes to Jongin who shifts rigidly beneath their curious, slightly furious, stares. There’s a rage coursing through his body, visible only from the tensing of his muscles and shoulders. It threatens to pull out his fangs and thrust them into the open, turning him from Jongin to Kai, the war lord persona coming to life beneath his skin. The air ripples around him, blurring beside him like waves of heat hovering over hot tar, as the room fills with sirens and sounds of a distant place; Jongin brings them the world while he grapples with control.
‘Do we know who it is?’ Kyungsoo says finally, hoping to ground Jongin in the council by the sound of his voice.
‘His visage is blurred from our CCTV footage,’ Jongin replies, shuddering through the air to shake the world away. ‘It appears his skill is phasing.’
‘What was the trajectory of movement?’ comes Junmyeon’s even voice. Always curt and to the point, he cares only for fact and result, and has little patience for the excess found in between. His finger impatiently taps the barrel of his gun as he waits for an answer.
‘From the training hangar to the left perimeter bank.’
‘Then we can cross-check who signed into the room with CCTV time codes and start there,’ he concludes.
A concurrent hum fills the room and Chanyeol finds himself nodding minutely, though unable to meet the eyes of his men.
‘Preparations are already in motion for an attack from within,’ he states, finger pressing on the metal table. He briefly becomes distracted by the lack of his fingerprint marks and again finds himself marveling at how he leaves to residue of heat. Standard, he knows, but still, even at his old age, he always finds it surprising.
Murmurs fill the room and for a moment it sounds as though Sehun is going to offer his opinion, but Chanyeol interrupts him knowing that this information, as upsetting as it is, was not and is not the reason for the meeting. He hates to interject, feeling rude for silencing his newest general but, if he does not say the words now, he fears he may keep the news to himself before it is too late.
‘This is not the reason our meeting is called,’ he announces loudly, and only raises his eyes to his men when true silence attempts to steal the air from the room. ‘It has come to my attention that our human companion is a Reader.’
Humanity never considers the heartbeat, never truly considers the thing that keeps them alive and pink and full. Humanity never considers the heartbeat, but vampires do. To a vampire, a heartbeat is thunder. It comes rumbling through the air on the wind, filling every space with its rhythmic trembling. It is impossible to avoid and it is impossible to ignore. Lately, the coven had been filled with the sound of Hero’s heartbeat, bouncing off walls and penetrating locked doors in an effort to be heard and loved and tasted. Lately, because of Hero, Chanyeol had been considering the heartbeat more than he had in centuries and, now, he thinks if his men had heartbeats of their own, they would have ceased.
Hardly anyone dares to breathe or speak, they simply let the words push and press on them, mold them into men they aren’t used to being. With a Reader in their midst, they start to feel vulnerable and mortal, and are forced to consider choices they had to make when their skin broke easier and when their wounds bled faster. Immediately, they come to see her as a great undoing and view time as something less than eternal. Immediately, their eyes move to Jongdae who does not bother to look back. As small as it is, Chanyeol is glad he told Jongdae this news in privacy on the roof, as the pressure of each gaze would slowly cause him to unravel and submit to an urgent sort of despair. Here, now, it is only the control of his features that falters. Murderous and ravenous for blood, Jongdae simply scowls at no one but the grim past that haunts him.
‘A Reader,’ Baekhyun says, breaking the silence. It is neither a question nor an affirmation, just a statement of fact and reality. His voice is low as he says the words, and it almost sounds as though no one was truly meant to hear it, but there is no marvel to his voice, no awe or surprise. The lights in the room dim slightly before reverting back, and it is only then that Chanyeol understands how Baekhyun truly feels: he’s already imagining his brothers dead.
‘I come to you all for council and input on how this is handled,’ Chanyeol says, looking everyone in the eye in the hopes of preventing further distractions. ‘Her presence affects all of us.’
It’s swift, the movement of their shoulders as they gather themselves and put their thoughts away in favor of action and planning.
‘Does she know her nature?’ Minseok asks, leaning forward with a grimace as he places his Beretta M9 on the table.
‘She does.’
‘Then she will have questions,’ Minseok says, looking at the rest of his brethren. ‘Perhaps we should start there, by not refusing her answers.’
With a sigh, Chanyeol sits back in his chair and adjusts his position, suddenly aware of his own gun pressing against his thigh as he moves. ‘She already has many questions, far too many, and I imagine more will come once she sees her clothing in the wardrobe.’
‘How ungrateful and stupid would one have to be to not know that was meant to aid them?’ Jongin’s voice is sharp and piercing, cutting through the air with a bitterness not usually found on his tongue. In his effort to not become Kai, his words have taken the shape of razor blades.
‘I think in a way we all wanted to help her,’ Yixing says, his words both calm and delicate, and it’s very clear he is using his power to soothe his brethren. Sitting rigid in his chair with his hands folded tightly together, much unlike his usual relaxed posture, he’s dividing his energy between calming the emotions and focusing on his words. ‘Pieces of us knew she was a Reader from the start, we just couldn’t have been aware or didn’t want to admit it to ourselves.’
It takes Yixing great effort, Chanyeol can tell, to ease a group of nine men back into politics, but somehow he manages it. There’s a warmth to the air, a sweetness similar to the scent of lavender that relaxes each man and forces their guard back to a sort of neutrality. Typically, this is dangerous, but here and now, it effectively recenters the men and even allows Chanyeol to consider Hero without imagining a bullet hole in the center of his heart.
The only man who seems immune to this healing wind is Jongdae, and he remains alarmingly still in his chair as Chanyeol eyes him in his peripheral. The conversation must remain delicate, the further they plunge into the topic the more visceral Jongdae’s memories are bound to become. Chanyeol can tell Yixing is aware of this, and watches the way he focuses on him with an unwavering gaze.
‘Knowing this, shouldn’t we be open with her?’ Kyungsoo suggests, as if such a thing were simple and obvious. Again, he lets nobility and righteousness take hold of his actions before allowing himself to consider the slicing of his own throat. ‘If she has questions they must be answered. It’s our duty to honor her.’
‘Perhaps bring her to this meeting?’ Baekhyun says, adding quickly to Kyungsoo’s suggestion. ‘We would be able to guide her through this.’
‘I’m sorry, are we suddenly forgetting that she’s a weapon?’ come Jongdae’s biting words as he slaps the table with his flat palm. As if expecting this reaction, seemingly no one flinches at the sound, though their attention is now trained on him. ‘True, our honor and respect will be given to her, but are we forgetting it will be done likely without our consent? We have no choice to honor her because she is death itself. We cannot forget she is an omen. She will be the one dictating who lives and who dies, and her inclusion instigates our actions - it’s already happened, don’t you see?’
As he speaks, the words gain speed and volume until he’s nearly shouting. He’s being burned alive just by the idea of a Reader, and Chanyeol reaches out a hand to rest on his shoulder.
‘Calm yourself, brother,’ he says, gently though he knows it will have little result. ‘We are still far from our fate.’
‘I’ll not apologize for being the only one considering how lethal she is.’
As Jongdae speaks, his voice becomes two fold as it harmonizes with the low baritone of a war lord. Keeping his power regulated means the release of other pieces of fury, darker, more bloodthirsty pieces that allow Chen to slip through and paint his vocal cords red. His hand that rests on the table suddenly tenses, fingers and nails dragging along the metal in silence as Jongdae struggles to remain whole.
‘No one is saying they aren’t,’ soothes Yixing. ‘We simply -’
‘If she wills us to die I pray that mine is first blood spilled,’ Chen roars, and this makes Yixing rush to Jongdae’s side, his fingers wrapping around his throat with alarming force. The physical contact has an immediate effect on Jongdae, and all at once he slumps back into his chair with a choked gasp.
‘Say such a thing again and I will have you removed from this council,’ Chanyeol says, the voice of his own war lord echoing against the walls. It blooms out from his chest, making him feel warm and relieved, the tone taking with it all the things he’s kept suppressed against his better nature. He knows it’s the room that makes both he and Jongin struggle to remain whole, but he knows it’s the memories that make Jongdae dissolve and willing to set Chen free.
Jongdae nods and twists his neck to crack the joints, releasing a smooth exhale as he attempts to focus.
‘All do respect, brothers,’ comes Yixing’s small yet strong voice as he walks back to his chair. ‘Her will to fight and survive strong enough that I suggest we take precautions. Within a day, she had already looked into my mind. There’s no telling how she will advance now she knows her nature.’
‘She grapples with it,’ Chanyeol clarifies, wiping his brow though there is no sweat or residue to remove, the action alone bringing him a sort of comfort under duress. ‘She has yet to fully accept it, but is true. I found her in front of the halfling cage. She’d looked into their minds and was able to See. It may not be long until we are at her mercy.’
‘May I also remind everyone she has yet to be turned,’ Sehun says, relaxing into Yixing’s power with a casual, almost languid posture in his chair. ‘Any power she may have is limited until she’s turned.’
‘It’s true,’ concedes Minseok, spinning his gun on the table and watching it rotate. To anyone else this would appear disrespectful, his sideways posture and seemingly distracted focus giving him the air of bored malcontent, but Chanyeol knows this is simply how Minseok relieves his tension. ‘She won’t truly be able to sway any battle until she’s dead.’
‘Then we still have time,’ Junmyeon advises, leaning back and straightening his suit jacket with a cough. ‘If I may suggest, we should deal with the mole first. If the Reader has questions, we will answer them but we cannot fully integrate her until we know the immediate threat has been handled.’
‘I agree.’ Sehun says with a nod.
‘I second,’ Minseok echoes, with a slightly bright tone, his war lord seemingly under perfect control. ‘Handling her and her questions too soon will only serve as a distraction to us. We run the risk of being vulnerable.’
‘Third,’ comes Jongin’s voice, Kai having disappeared from his voice altogether.
Raising his fist to cover his mouth as he clears his voice of his war lord, Chanyeol coughs slightly as he straightens his back.
‘It’s important we recognize the motions of war,’ he begins, voice stern and serious, ‘that the Reader and the mole are consequences of the same reality.’
He trains his eyes on every general in the room, keeping his gaze on them for several seconds before moving onto the next as he attempts to make his point known.
‘Jinsoo has been planning war against us far longer than the enaction of our deal,’ he continues, allowing the words to settle in the room with purpose and emphasis. Saying them this way, in front of all his men inside the War Room, makes the reality he’s been toeing unfathomably undeniable. ‘There’s no telling how long the mole has been with us, and it is likely this that has placed the Reader in our grasp.’
‘Should we not be grateful she is with us then?’ Baekhyun says slowly, his mind putting the words together as he speaks. ‘If she’s with us we have immediate access.’
Chanyeol releases a low hum and nods, only to furrow his brow and remind the members of his original plan. ‘I admit, I had planned to use the Reader as our own mole, however it is no longer in our best interest to send her from where we need her most.’
‘We still should,’ Baekhyun concedes and quickly adds, ‘we’d have information from the other side, far more than any their mole could glean from us.’
‘The choice to participate should be hers,’ Kyungsoo says cooly. ‘We cannot force her. We need to earn her trust and include her. Only then will she truly return to us.’
‘It feels wrong to me,’ comes Yixing’s slightly anxious reply. Shaking his head as he speaks, he continues. ‘Discussing this without her here. Are we not already attempting to influence her fate?’
‘This is exactly what I was saying,’ Jongdae says fiercely. ‘We are already dancing around her existence as though she influences every action of this coven.’
‘I agree,’ Sehun says, sounding slightly bored. ‘If she were anyone else, we wouldn’t be hesitating to use her.’
‘If she were anyone else, she would already be dead.’
‘The reality is that she isn’t just a human,’ Junmyeon offers, cutting through the conversation with his eyes still focused on his gun. ‘She is a Reader, and ignoring her nature makes us careless and complacent.’ When he brings his eyes to the others, he is cold and hard and impatient for action. ‘From what Chanyeol is telling us, war has been a foot far longer than we are admitting to ourselves. Acknowledging she is a Reader, though an unforeseen obstacle, gives us the upper hand. Gentlemen, it’s all about perspective.’
‘Thank you, Junmyeon,’ Chanyeol says, grateful for his decisive nature. ‘And inaction at this point means eternal death for us all.’
‘We know what will happen if we send her over,’ Minseok asserts. ‘Jinsoo won’t be able to stop himself, he’ll immediately feel the pull. We’ll lose her before we’ve even had the opportunity to use her.’
‘That’s precisely why we need her trust,’ Kyungsoo says quickly, tapping the table with his gun and smiling at the sound. ‘If Jinsoo feels the pull, she will walk him to his death if her allegiance is already decided.’
‘And how do you suggest we earn her trust?’
‘It has to start with me,’ Chanyeol says, regarding his reflection in the table. There, he looks slightly blue and less of a man and more of a fantasy, someone with colder eyes and the pallor of death to his skin. For a moment, he sees it as a premonition before shaking the thought from his mind. ‘I’m the one most affected by her power, it’s designed for me. The only way to earn her trust is to surrender to it.’
‘Sire, she will make you vulnerable,’ Baekhyun says delicately, hoping to neither instigate Jongdae nor remind Chanyeol of how willing he will be to oblige to her will.
At this, Chanyeol nods and his voice takes on the cool tone he’s used to lacing through his words. ‘And that is why I’ll need you all to remain steadfast in in your stations. I want training hours bumped up by three hours, minimum. We should also restock our supplies of holy water. Sehun, how is the armory?’
‘Fully stocked at the moment,’ he says with a wide smile, pride overtaking his features. Since his arrival, the armory had become his nest, taking to ammo and daggers as one would take comfort in their mother’s arms. ‘Twelve rifles are out for cleaning at the moment. I have a shipment of explosives coming within three days.’
‘Excellent. And blood?’
‘I strongly advise we acquire more,’ Yixing suggests, a pressure to his words not usually seen in regular circumstances. ‘We’ve been patient enough and I have a lead on a different supplier.’
‘Coordinate with Jongdae,’ Chanyeol advises, the routine focus on strategy and tactics easing him back into the role of Sire without the anxiety of possibilities and omens. ‘I want everything at full capacity within four days, if we can manage it. Money, at this point, is a non-issue.’
A wave of acknowledgement maneuvers its way throughout the room, men moving and nodding with their orders, and Chanyeol finds himself admiring them in a way that sees them as ghosts. He hates that he does this, hates that even with the routine of tactics and money he’s forced to see both his men and himself as antiquities of a distant time rather than men who have earned their right to the present world. He hates that he does this, so he changes the topic and focuses on things he understands.
Bloodshed.
‘Let us acknowledge that the first blood spilled will be the changing tide,’ he says, and he knows he does not need to explain. They all understand an attack from within means the start of war, and that, once vampire blood is spilled, the eradication of the enemy is both swift and complete. ‘Many will die. There is a likelihood we will not survive.’
‘This is what we accepted the moment we turned, Sire,’ Baekhyun offers with a lukewarm smile, the room seeming to glow just a little bit brighter in contrast with his sentiments; Chanyeol finds this action comforting. ‘This day was inevitable.’
‘If we die, I hope we die quickly,’ Minseok declares, his version of optimistic both sarcastic and grim.
Still, it’s enough to make Chanyeol smile even if it doesn’t reach his eyes.
‘I will lay down my life for you,’ he announces, signaling the end of the meeting. ‘You all know this to be true.’
‘And I you.’
Nine voices echo throughout the room, all breathing and speaking the same sentiment in a chorus of belief as though these three words were a dogma. They let the words resonate until the din is dry and gone, a whisper on the memory of men deciding it’s time to accept the truth: that with these words, war has officially begun.
손짓,손짓 baby
@59apothecary
the late summer sun of south italy shines its last kisses onto the honeymooners as they stroll across the sicily beach. fresh love like the smell of blooming flowers and sea breeze swirl in the air between them. their eyes twinkling with promises, beaming bright with pure elation towards each other, the affection is thick in the gaps between their gazes. oh sehun and yang asha -- no, oh sua with their fingers intertwined soak in the last exhalations of the sun with their smiles as the sicilian waves crash unto the sand under their feet.
romance is very much not dead, this very moment suspended in time is the very visage of love.
this is how they spend most nights on their month long ventures into the pockets of europe, hand in hand, their vows locked within the cages of their ribs inside their beating, red hearts just looking into each others eyes (till death do them part).
this is how they spend most nights, staring each other down as the summer moon casts it’s pale kiss through the frame of their window to give sensual light to their own frames.
this is how they spend most nights, in bed, legs tangled together giggling like children as if they’ve pilfered something that was never theirs to begin with, laughing between kisses because they know its real, raw and theirs to begin with. love had always belonged to them believe it or not, yes, this elusive magic that was love was real, this unattainable goal was in their arms, encompassed in a band slipped on their fourth finger.
this is how they spend most nights, their skin slick with perspiration pressed wholly against each other, flushed chests in a wanton embrace, tongue on tongue, tongue on skin, tongue on...
the air is thick around them most nights.
his fingers cupping her face so his eyes peer into her needs to know what he should give, his fingers lightly dancing from her nape to her spine, his fingers slick with her aromatic ambrosia, his fingers slipping between her lips as she sucks in desperation, his fingers gripping her thighs almost bruising them has he spreads them wide, his fingers fisted in her hair to tame the fire that coils at his sex.
her fingers thread themselves through his hair as he kisses the soft skin of her pale thighs, her fingers grazing down along his chest as they hold impenetrable gazes of starving lovers, her fingers wrapped around his neck as they share sweet wet kisses, her fingers wrapped around his throbbing sex as her lips are dangerously close.
and he goes “oh, oh sua.” in his light drawn out voice, his head lolled back and exhaling loudly as if he had been holding his breath for that very moment.
he wants, he wants, he wants. no -- oh sehun needs her.
he needs her love fully, his and in every way he desires it.
this night is probably how most nights go because as the lovers walk back to their suite, having murmured conversations as the moon rises, sehun has his hands no longer at sua’s waist but at her hips, too touchy. his lips find hers hotly, desperately in the corner of their small elevator ride up. his hand grabbing hers so that they find themselves against the wall of their suite sua’s sundress lost in the dark.
for he is yearning, monstrous and in love, oh sehun must have her.
wet kisses trace down her jaw, purpling her neck so that when she wakes not only does the ring on her finger tell her that she is all his. his tongue swirling at her perky chest, his nose buried between so that he can almost hear the beating of her heart (his heart). the heat between them swirls, almost suffocating him as his lust, his choking need clouds over him.
“sua, princess...” he coos, his lips finding the shell of her hear, “i need you.”
exo react ෴ comforting you after a hard day
anon asked: Could you do exo's reaction to you having a hard day and needing some love and comfort??
⁂ xiumin: he was quite in tune with your moods and didn’t say a word when he heard the front door slam shut. with his arms wide open, he gave you a kind smile as your shoulders drooped forward, a sign that showed him how exhausted you were from doing this and that. once you plopped into his arms, he held you as close to his chest as he could and pet the back of your head while you leaned against your boyfriend. it felt like all the stress had left your body and finally, finally, it felt like your muscles weren’t tense and sore anymore. a proud smile was on minseok’s face as you eventually fell asleep to his steady breathing and petting.
⁂ suho: very concerned for your well being. he asked how you were doing and kindly told you that you could complain about what was bothering you today. since he saw you as a small bean, he pulled you onto his lap and let you wrap you arms around his neck, his chin gently propped against your shoulder. wrapping his arm around your waist, he traced different shapes along your thigh and listened to you talk about how shitty your day was. once you finished talking about what was bugging you, junmyeon brought you closer to him so that his warmth enveloped you. pressing gentle and soothing kisses to your jawline, junmyeon cuddled you for the rest of the day until you were content.
⁂ lay: yixing was very worried, but didn’t show it as much as he usually did. when he looked at you, he immediately knew you needed some cuddles and that today wasn’t the day to be talking. laying on the couch, he scooted about to make room for you, his dimpled smile on display as he pat the spot beside him. once you slowly crawled onto the couch with him, his arm curled around your waist while the other cradled the back of your head. his gaze was loving as his fingers combed through your hair in a soothing manner, his chest vibrating as he hummed a lovely song by your ear. he didn’t want you to tire yourself out for now and would only let you talk about your day once you took a relaxing nap. you slept for 5 hours.
⁂ baekhyun: he wouldn’t do anything out of the ordinary, but maybe give you more snacks to munch on while you cried. baekhyun would let you lean back against his chest as he fed you your favourite snacks, talking to you casually, but in a more gentle way. he’d of course ask about your day while rubbing your arms, his chin hooked atop your head as you ate through your tears; a smile on his face as he wiped your tears away. “cry as much as you want.” he cooed as his hand stole a few of your chips when you weren’t looking. all jokes aside, he would let you eat your feelings away as he watched you and would always be listening whenever you began to speak about what was bugging you.
⁂ chen: jongdae would be trying to make you laugh as much as you could, but the only reward he received were just a few of your weak giggles. your eyes were sad and you couldn’t help but feel like you weren’t able to laugh today. your boyfriend hugged you and sighed; not able to look at your sad face. kissing your temple, he held you as tight as he could and rubbed his cheek against the top of your head -- another method to make you laugh. which you did, since you hated when he did that, but it was also cute and you were stuck in between; not knowing if you liked it when he did that or not. the smile on his face was wide as you pushed him away with a shy grin, trying to fix your hair before your boyfriend tackled you onto the couch to give you much more cuddles.
⁂ chanyeol: so much snuggling. “jagiya, don’t give me that face. you’ll make me cry too.” he pouted, one of his hands coming up to frame the side of your visage while the other pet the back of your head. though you weren’t crying, it was likely that you’d cry if your boyfriend started to. you huffed quietly and rest your chin on his shoulder as he pulled you into a bone crushing hug on the bed, his lips leaving loving kisses against your temple while he tugged your leg over his hip. “relax, honey.” he mumbled grumpily when you bit his shoulder, a wavering frown on your face as he rubbed your back in a soothing manner. every few minutes, chanyeol would pull you closer and closer to his chest without you knowing, and suddenly in 10 minutes, you found yourself squished against his chest; probably not being able to breathe. squeezing you lovingly, he nudged your temple with his nose, “i love you~ now say it back, i know you’re not sad anymore.”
⁂ d.o: when kyungsoo saw you walk through the front door with that exasperated look on your face, he automatically stood up from the couch to lead you into your bedroom where he helped you change into more comfortable clothes and brushed your hair so that you didn’t have to. once he tied your hair up, it was your cue to start talking about your shitty day. he hummed in acknowledgment whenever you expected a response from him and led you back into the living room where he sat you down on the couch. as you continued with your rant, your boyfriend would be in the kitchen making you something warm and delicious for you to eat so that you could relax a bit. you were still talking by the time he came back with a tray of food and he set it in front of you before sitting beside your frame on the couch. he’d eventually start to feed you as you held his free hand, your body resting against his side while your eyelids fluttered sleepily from time to time.
⁂ kai: just like chanyeol, jongin would be giving you tons of cuddles. he hated when you had that look on your face where it looked like you were going to cry; and sometimes that made him choke up a bit. “come here.” he’d say with his arms open wide. once you settled against his chest, jongin would wrap up the both of you with a fluffy blanket. with the hem under your chin, it felt like you were going to fall asleep then and there against your boyfriend’s chest, which -- jongin doesn’t mind. the weight of you against his chest makes him feel more at ease, and slowly, his breathing lulls you to sleep, his arms secure around your waist. when he noticed you had fallen asleep on him, he did his best not to move too much and just admired how the frustrated expression on your face earlier morphed into a peaceful one.
⁂ sehun: he wasn’t that great at taking care of those around him, but whenever sehun sees you with that look on your face, his heart does this thing where it feels like it’s sinking to the bottom of his stomach. he hates that feeling. he also wasn’t very talkative whenever he saw you in this state and instead opted for giving you physical comfort. his gaze was attentive as you spoke to him about your day, his cheek squished against the top of your head. your legs were put across his lap once you finished talking and sehun decided that giving you kisses were best to cheer you up. though a bit shy and bashful, your boyfriend would be kissing your cheek, forehead, temple, or the top of your head every few minutes as your fingers tangled themselves in the hem of his shirt.
